Thank you Class 24 for your hard work on the final performance. We hope you will continue to remember that social media is not a replacement for life and let that phone go!
This blog is to highlight our Global Awareness Campaign about the problems of social media dependency. We hope to inform people that social media connections are not a substitute for real, human relationships.

Posters by Art and Design team
Art and Design team has made some posters and digital posters to give awareness to people about the topic, "Connected but alone".
"Stop the Phone" challenge by PR group
The challenge that the Public Relations team has created is called "Stop the Phone". Our group challenged the GLPS students to not use their phones when they are dinning. When they complete the challenge, students will need to get approved by three other friends or teachers with signature. The signed posters will decorate our tree poster, which will provides a sense of community and connection in real life.
We will have the challenge taking place in week 3 and pictures will follow.

Intro 1: Good evening, everyone. We are class 24 and today we will be presenting our Global Awareness campaign topic, Connected but Alone. These days in the modern world, technology has developed and more new age people are becoming dependent on either their smartphones, and social media.
Intro 2: However, what we’re going to do is pinpoint one of the major problems and try to show you why we need to stop ourselves from relying on social media to form connections. A lot of people have social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. Those people become so engrossed with the account that they begin to slip away from reality. This can lead to isolation, being cyber bullied, or left dependent on social media. We want to raise awareness and show you that people should stop mistaking their online friends as their real friends and start looking for their real friends in reality. Here’s an example of what we mean.
[exit intro members and enter the facebook addicts, facebook with their phones]
Facebook 1: OMG did you see BTS’ new album that came out?
Facebook 2: Holy, OMG I did and it was lit! Get it? Cause their title song was called fire?
[play small clip of BTS fire in the background]
Facebook 1: LMAO of course. But Jungkook his vocals and remember Suga? They were so #goals.
Facebook 3: Guys, guys more important news. I got tickets for the golden state warriors against the lakers this weekend man.
Facebook 2: Sick, bro. You should take this guy called Ricky. He’s literally in love with basketball.
Facebook 2: Shoot, I forgot that Big Bang concert tickets are going to be sale soon. I’ll text you guys later. Ttyl
Facebook 1: Bye boo
Facebook 3: Cya
[exit facebook addicts and facebook]
[enter the school cool kids]
School kid 1: Aw dude, you heard the song Panda?
[play small clip of Panda by DESIIGNER without the swear words]
School kid 2: Yeah, man who hasn’t? It’s been all over the internet.
School kid 3: So has the news of BTS’ new album!!
School kid 1: Remind me why we’re hanging out with this chick?
School kid 2: Dunno, man it was your choice.
[enter in Facebook addict 1 and 2]
School kid 3: Aren’t they the new girls that stay on their phones 24/7?
School kid 2: Oh, they’re pretty hot. Better than you for sure.
School kid 1: Wanna ask them to hang?
[approach FB addict 1 and 2]
School kid 3: What’s up?
Facebook addict 1: I’m updating my status, wait lemme take a pic. Say cheese!
[takes picture of the three kids and they are immediately freaked out]
School kid 2: Well, we were going to ask if you wanted to hang out with us? Maybe go out for a movie?
Facebook addict 2: Depends, how many followers do you have?
School kid 1: What the heck is she talking about?
School kid 3: You mean Facebook?
[FB addict 1 and 2 nods]
School kid 1: Why do you care about that?
Facebook addict 1: [dramatic gasp] Who doesn’t? I have over 2 thousand.
[all school kids stare at her weirdly and slowly walk away from her]
School kid 1: Dude, she’s so weird.
School kid 2: Yeah, now I know why they barely got any friends. They’ve got issues.
[next day, everyone is whispering and talking about facebook addict 1 while she walks down the hallway with her phone]
School kid 3: You know, she’s got over 2 thousand followers but 0 in real life. Pathetic.
School kid 1: She’s going to hit the pavement one day, super hard yo.
[enter pokemon go addict/facebook addict 3 and bump into School kid 1]
School kid 1: Hey man, watch where you’re going. Don’t you have eyes?
Pokemon Go addict: [places pointer finger on School kid addict 1’s mouth] SHHH. I just caught a Squirtle and I gotta update my facebook status.
[Pokemon Go addict walks away]
School kid 1: Humans..
[scene ends and conclusion speakers walk up]
Conclusion 1: As you can see in our play, social media dependency can lead to serious problems. Please remember, friends on social media such as Facebook or Instagram may not be the “best” friends you can get. Always try to meet real friends, face to face, and communicate with them.
Conclusion 2: In our Global Awareness project, the PR team made challenges that can test people not to use phones during either dinner time or a certain period of time.
Conclusion 3: The Media team made a video, a Facebook page, and an Instagram page as well. Our Art and Design team created lovely and powerful posters that can inspire you to start putting down your phone and take a look around.
Conclusion 2: We hope that our presentation taught you guys how we shouldn’t rely on social media all the time and that we should focus on reality and our real selves. Just as our PR team created a challenge to not use your phones and social media, we challenge you to use less time on your phones and social media and more time on your real life.Thank you for listening and let that phone go!

Week 1- Minute to Win it Pitch
In week 1 all of the classes competed in an event called "GLPS has got Talent!". For the event each class came on stage to pitch their ideas for a campaign about 3 topics they chose. Classes had a minute to win it, only 1 minute to present their ideas and win over the judges.
Class 24 presented their pitches for the topics:
1. Violence Against Women
2. Connected but alone: Social Media Dependency
3. Ban Trump
Each group did a great job and Class 24 won the topic: Connected but alone: Social Media Dependency. Class 24 will create a campaign to raise awareness about this topic and be posting their progress on the blog.
Stay tuned!

Welcome to Global Awareness
Are you ready to have fun and start sharing with the world a topic you think needs attention? Here is your chance to make a difference and create a Global Awareness Campaign to share what you think is important in the world today.
The above of some examples of possible Global Awareness Campaign topics. With your class, you will choose from a list of topics your teacher presents to you. After you have 3 possible topics you will break into 3 groups to make a "pitch" for that topic. Tell us why your class should have a chance to create a campaign to raise awareness about the topic. Why is the topic important to you and how will you raise awareness about it?
On Thursday evening, all classes in Global Awareness will attend an event called "GLPS has got talent!" where your class will pitch your 3 topics to a group of judges. The class that does the best job convincing the judges that they are the best class to raise awareness for their topic will win the topic and get to do it for their Global Awareness Campaign.
Remember, you only have "one minute to win it" so work on creating a pitch that is persuasive and convincing in only 1 minute.
Ready, set, go!
Remember to work as a TEAM and create a pitch for your topics.
Stop Global Warming! No pollution is the solution! Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Watch your waste!Stop smoking.Don’t Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive.Just say NO to Bullying.
